We’re suckers for these “vision of the future” vids. While there’s nothing quite groundbreaking about The Astonishing Tribe‘s vision (except maybe that 90′s haircuts are back), it’s still fun to see. Oh, transparent OLED! We can’t wait.

HD projection power house Obscura Digital, the company that can use any object as canvas, released a video highlighting their 2010 California Roadshow that is very inspiring. They traveled across the state transforming many popular locations including 700 ft of the USS Midway and the architectural wonder that is the Walt Disney Concert hall. Some locations used as many as 12 projectors and required around two days of rigging and calibrating. Pictures and alternate video below.

Forget HTML5. It seems that some think animated GIFs are the way to work around flash. Ignition and Virtual Images have released two new 3D motion posters for Scott Pilgrim and Alpha & Omega as approximately 5MB animated GIFs. Although this does enable iPad users and flash haters to view the posters, the load times are horrendous. With a 5MB file size, viewers may be left wondering “Is this it?” once the poster fully loads. If file size could be cut down without ruining the quality, this could be a viable alternative to flash and it would be great to see.

Motion Posters:

Here is a rather distracting piece of work promoting The Last Exorcism. Hacked together from print poster assets and clips from the movie, this is a perfect example of how not to make Living Art- distracting and recycled. If the motion poster is to be unique art form of its own, it needs a reason to be- How is this not just some vertical teaser trailer? What are you offering that a poster or trailer isn’t? Why would anyone want to look at this thing for any length of time?

Any self respecting medium should have the metaphysical decency to look inwards and ask, “Why am I?”: If the creators of this motion poster had bothered, we might have been spared.

Print Poster:

Behold! The Galaxy Tab (teaser).  Portable 7″ screen, video calling, Android OS. Check back for updates from the IFA trade show on September 2nd, where we hope to see some live demos and new features. Kudos to Samsung for coming up with an even worse tablet name than the iPad.

Ocean Outdoor, a UK based digital out of home company, is giving YOU the chance to win a ad campaign worth £250,000 (approximately $390,000). Oh ya, and also two flights to San Francisco, which is a huge deal if you live in the UK (sorry SF residents).

The contest will be judged by the consumer (London guests will be asked to vote via Twitter) and by a panel of “5 media, advertising and creative experts”. Entries will be posted live and must be submitted by Monday, September 27th at 9am.

Ocean has ownership of some prime digital billboards and other signage spread throughout England. Check out the contest page here for specifics because there are many different types of billboards to really display some creative Living Art including interactive opportunities. So go ahead, submit your content, and show jolly ol’ England how we DOOH it! We are also trying to contact Ocean Outdoor to find out more specifics on the contest such as if US Residents are allowed to apply. We will keep you updated.

Behold these brand spanking new pics of the Toshiba SmartPad. This is the first tablet pictures we have seen with ports including HDMI, USB, and a memory card reader of some sort. A tablet with HMDI is great news for content creators wanting to use their tablet as an HD presentation tool. Other rumored specs include a 10″ screen, Android OS, and an Nvidia Tegra platform 2. More details as they are leaked!

This is pretty cool. Instead of painting on a canvas, Alexa Meade paints on people and other objects to essentially gives the subject or scene a two dimensional style found on a traditional print painting. The finished projects are presented as live installations, or stills taken from her 3D portraits. If you are in the DC area, check her out at the Irvine Contemporary, July 19 – July 24.

According to Download Squad, the Google/HTC tablet is rumored to be released on November 26th, Black Friday 2010. The tablet is being manufactured by HTC for Google and will be equipped with Google’s new Chrome OS and launched on Verizon. The Chrome OS has very few details, but we are definitely excited to see what it may bring.

Brazilian designer Dinard da Mata, developed this sleek flexible OLED smartphone concept for Philips called the Fluid. Its long horizontal design enables it to also act as a phone, video game controller, and with the ability to wrap around your wrist, this will be one of the first phones to allow us tech nerds to wear the device like the oh so fashionable snap bracelet.
